Vlad Butucariu reveals ultra slim wooden laptop stand

Rotterdam based designer Vlad Butucariu has revealed an ultra slim portable wooden laptop stand that addresses the problems surrounding our constant daily laptop use. FLIO’s lightweight ergonomic design provides the conditions for a proper sitting position and easy typing, making it ideal in any environment. FLIO was launched on Kickstarter November 4th, and will be available through the crowdfunding platform until December 7th. See more details on Kickstarter on how to support the project.

I know this problem first-hand, and tried to improvise with objects around me to lift the laptop higher. The issue was that it either wasn’t positioned high enough, unstable, or I couldn’t type without an additional keyboard. And even if my temporary ‘construction’ helped with a proper posture, it was too heavy and massive to take it with me. So that’s why I invented the Flio stand!

Vlad Butucariu has designed the collapsable laptop stand to offer two different viewing heights up to 14.5 cm, facilitating a straight back position and keeping a good balance when it comes to easy typing. Vlad has spent a significant amount of time finding the perfect balance between height and viewing angle, without compromising comfort.

FLIO is probably the thinnest and most compact wooden laptop stand created so far. The ultra thin design comes in two different thicknesses: 6 or 8 mm (0.31″), making it almost unnoticeable under your laptop. FLIO is made from three thin elements of wood that stack together perfectly like a small jig-saw puzzle, fitting perfectly in any bag or even your laptop sleeve.

Don’t let the ultra thin design fool you. The wooden stand was made to sustain significant weight, keeping your laptop secure.

The minimalist design takes no shortcuts when it comes to the quality of materials used. The sleek FLIO is made with sustainability in mind, from high quality wood panels produced under certified standards.

Wood is warm, has beautiful texture and doesn’t affect the environment as plastic would, at production as well as at the end of the product’s life. We don’t just pay attention to quality but also to hallmarks and certifications. All wood panels come from plantations compliant to FSC or PEFC regulations, assuring a fair purchase from manufacturers.

The base FLIO version comes in high quality Hardwood with the same smooth texture on both sides. The other four options are Eucalyptus Hardboard, Oil Tempered Hardwood, Beech wood with natural finish and Bamboo. Each option has its own unique advantages so that it fit’s your personal style.

If you would like to personalize your FLIO even further, Vlad added the option of a personalized 140 characters engraving.

Interested in comfort and productivity, the designer made available a smaller version suitable for mobile devices. The smaller stand that fits your jeans pocket, can be attached to keys and holds your smartphone at the right angle to watch a movie, receive a video call or surf the internet, without the hassle of holding your phone all the time.
