Swedish furniture brand Blå Station has initiated a project called Experiment 2015 where Stefan Borselius, Thomas Bernstrand and Blå Station’s own design manager, CEO and producer, Johan Lindau were invited to create three design classics for public environment. The project involved an entirely open design process where the designers would coach, debate and criticize each other. One of the results from the collaboration is the ultra slim Poppe chair.
Stefan Borselius designed the chair as an exploration of how narrow an armchair can be without losing its comfort and functionality. The elegant creation features a high back rest that inspires mobility.
This wasn’t to be an armchair that you sit in or a stool that you sit on says Stefan, but rather an armchair that you sit with. A narrow style that provides mobility. I didn’t want it to be merely easy to move around and furnish with, but also easier for the user to move with the chair.
– Stefan Borselius
This time, I wanted to see how far I could go with dimensions. How narrow can we make an upholstered armchair without losing function? Are there limits to our expectations about how a piece of furniture should appear or be?
– Stefan Borselius
The chair is made from a steel frame with moulded polyurethane foam. The chair comes available in steel swivel base or four-legged frame in lacquered steel with adjustable feet.
The lacquered finish is available in blue, aubergine, dark green, red-orange, black with a wide variety of upholstery options.
