Known for their creative and dynamic office designs, the Russian based studio za bor architects, has recently completed the Smena Fitness Club, which marks their third sports-related project. The client’s request was to create a large stylish club with high quality equipment and original design. The studio implemented their signature expressional dynamic design, to create a cutting-edge fitness club. From slanted walls, to dynamic geometric featured elements, and bold colours, the Smena Fitness Club simply motivates you to work out.

The search for the perfect space took almost six months, as high ceilings and good insulation were some of the most coveted features. The fourth floor of the Streletskaya Sloboda business club located in the reconstructed building of the former plant, in Moscow, had all the desired features.

The branding for the club was developed by a well-known Russian design studio, which included the colour scheme, as well as the format of information and way-finding signage. The two project architects Peter Zaytsev and Arseniy Borisenko, first approached the design concept from a functional zoning point of view.

In general the fitness club is designed as a laconic space which is the background for dynamic broken volumes that symbolize in this project «dynamics» and «movement» as the quintessence of all sports and healthy lifestyle.

The red volumes through the space act as functional separation, used for locker rooms, coach rooms and other isolated spaces inside, but also as a division of zones according to noise levels. The two largest volumes incorporate the ‘silent’ office block, and a ‘noisy’ hall with fitness cycles that provides a powerful audio system.

Another major feature of the club is the cardiovascular machine zone, raised 60 cm from the floor, offering visitors a panoramic view of the street.
