Jorre van Ast has created the Local Wood Collection for the dutch design brand Arco. The name Local Wood says it all, as the dutch designers focus their attention on creating a collection that showcases local wood from the region around Arco workshop in Winterswijk. The collection includes the Base Table, Base Round Table, and the Base Bench, all featuring the unique qualities of the wood.
A logical step for us – the knowledge and skills of our team also come from within our community. With Local Wood we want to organize the whole process with local participants: material, production and manufacturing. For us, Local Wood is honest, clear and transparent.
The Base Round Table reflects the concept of the collection: basic furnishing, where local wood takes centre stage. The robust, ‘non-nonsense’ table, is made of solid oak, and concrete base. A simple table that does not stray away from attention to details. The durable materials ensure a table that will last throughout generations.
Local Wood also has an important advantage: it does not have to be shipped from afar. In addition, we see locally produced timber as a valuable product, and we think it’s a shame that this wood is hardly used for high quality furniture.
The Base Bench is a sturdy bench designed for the Base Table. Like the rest of the collection, it is made out of local solid oak, and concrete. The bench is also available with an optional leather cushion, for a softer look.
