As all of David Trubridge‘s designs, the Koura Pendant Light draws its inspiration from nature. Koura makes reference to the Maori name for small fresh water shrimps, while the delicate structure is reminiscent of the wooden traps used to catch them.
Unlike most lighting systems on the market, Koura is produced as a kitset, rather than a complete unit. Each lamp is packaged and distributed in small components that need to be assembled by the owner. This ensures a more efficient shipping, as it minimizes the weight of the overall package and reduces freight.
From the nature inspired shapes, to the use of natural materials and creative ways of reducing shipping and freight, David Trubridge takes all the right steps in creating products that help reduce our environmental footprint.
Koura is available in six different sizes, nine stock colors and is made out of Bamboo Plywood.
Koura is the Maori name for the small fresh water shrimps that live in our rivers. They curl up in this shape. This shape is mirrored again in the similar woven traps used for catching them. Our kit sets significantly reduce freighting, which is one of our ways of doing what we can to help preserve our beautiful sea and land environments.
