Presented as one of 14 winning prototype submissions in the 3rd Annual IIDEX Woodshop Competition at IIDEX Canada Toronto in December 2015, the Fluyt Bench was an immediate standout. Designed by Kalyca Ryan and Bram Sawatzky of Willow & Stump Furniture Design, the delicate design combines functionality and aesthetics.
The design inspiration came from the rich history of traditional canoe-building techniques. The shape itself is reminescent of a sectioned canoe featuring steam-bent ash ribs that wrap around. Supported by two elegant legs, the bench seems to be floating delicately.
A reclaimed solid ash top opens to reveal a large storage area for soft items. The Fluyt Bench is a modular solution perfect for a variety of living areas. Optional shelving attachments can be secured onto either end of the bench for additional storage.
Materials: Ash, Corian, Brass Hardware
Dimensions: 3′ x 19″ x 15″ (customizable)
