German designers Eva Paster and Michael Geldmacher of Neuland Industriedesign have developed the Elephant Chair for Italian manufacturer Kristalia.
At first glance, The Elephant Chair may seem as a normal tubular metal chair. However, Kristalia along with Neuland Industriedesign managed to utilize modern technology to reinterpret a classic design. The shell of the chair was inspired by the strong backbone of an elephant, thus its name. Its shell structure is constructed out of polyurethane injection: a durable and lightweight material that is ideal for commercial and residential use.
The chair is available in leather, with visible seams, and a second option made of polyurethane, with an optional removable fabric cushion.
By nature, hide is not such a pliable material, but for Elephant it has been treated and shaped as if it were thin leather, removing part of its thickness by rubbing the back of it with abrasive stones while keeping it on the structure in order to obtain its curves and technological details.
The stitching can be seen running along the shape of the structure, creating a continuous and seamless line.
The Elephant chair comes in many different color choices and finishes to suit every interior.
