Industrial designer Ruthy Shafrir has launched on Kickstarter an eco-friendly shelving unit that can be assembled in less than five minutes without any tools or fasteners. Ruche was inspired by the bee hive shape, known for its strength and stability. The project is currently running on Kickstarter. For backing up the project and more details, see the official Kickstarter page!
RUCHE started out as I wanted to design something useful and pretty that can be put together using no tools or means of joining. Something intelligent, simple and cool that will make you happy. I got inspired by the beehive shape and this is the result.
The entire structure is made of flat sheets that when put together make hexagonal and triangular shaped cells. When assembled, the isostatic structure becomes extremely strong and can withstand massive loads.
Ruche was crafted to provide and very simple and quick assembly. The design comes with 12 flat pieces for each unit that can be put together in no time. The sustainable shelving unit is available in aluminum and cardboard, each providing a different look and feel, as well as different price point.
Ruche is eco-friendly as it is produced from recycled and recyclable materials, in a low impact, one fase manufacturing techniques. It is also delivered in a flat package that reduces its carbon footprint.
Ruche is available in three different size to suit a variety of needs. The small units can be easily hung on the wall, ideal for kitchen or office use. The medium and large size units are ideal as bookshelves, and room organizers. The aluminum units will be available in four different colours, while the cardboard ones will showcase a black and white pattern.
Ruche will be available on Kickstarter for 12 more days, with first units being delivered in February. Visit Ruche’s Kickstarter page for more details on each Pledge reward.
