David Trubridge Studio has released two brand new lighting products ‘Belle’ and ‘Beau’ after their introduction at the Westedge Design Fair in Los Angeles on October 16. The two new pendants are now available in two different sizes and three finishes: Natural, Caramel and Black Stained Bamboo.
The new designs were developed in collaboration with Marion Courtillé, introducing a new aesthetic to the David Trubridge Collection. ‘Belle and Beau’s light sources are less visible than most of our lights’, says Trubridge.
Both pendants are made from thin 1mm (0..04″) bamboo plywood using low VOC water based stain. The designs feature overlapping patterns which enhance the beautiful structure of the lights, and create a warm atmosphere.
The new collection offers various new lighting options due to the different effects the finish has on the lights; the black stain limits the amount of light, creating a moody mysterious space, whilst the natural option glows like a lantern… This is similar to our other lights which are already being used to create atmosphere and drama, rather than primarily to illuminate a room.
Belle and Beau are both part of the company’s sustainable Seed System kitset lighting collection where the product is designed to be sent packed flat and then constructed on site by the customer or the retailer.
In this way we can freight products around the globe with minimal environmental impact. We commissioned a series of Life Cycle Analysis studies of our first light design, Coral which proved that if the kitset is freighted to Europe by sea it has the same environmental impact to the same light made in Europe.
David Trubridge won the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) award for Top Pick 2014 for Socially Responsible Design at the Westedge Design Fair where Belle and Beau were released.
