Portuguese design studio DAM has launched a new stool inspired by the wine culture of the Douro Valley, focusing its form and shape on elements that are originally from the wine essence. The Pipo stool/side table marks the first cork piece created by DAM, and has recently won the 2014 POPs Serralves.
The stool is made fully made out of black cork and references the traditional barrel used for the transport and storage of wine. The mobility of the product is associated to the commercial expansion of the wine and it is as if each person carried this cultural history when carrying Pipo.
Beyond its sustainable properties, cork is extremely lightweight and slip resistant, making it ideal for a variety of uses. The rope, in combination with the black cork, emphasizes the old look. The rope is available in a variety of colours, making it more fun and adaptable to your needs.
