Dutch designers Yvonne Laurysen and Erik Mantel from LAMA Concept designed an inspiring eco-friendly wool felt carpet that features embedded LED lights. In a world of technology, and sensory innovation, the dutch duo’s design practice revolves around the concept: “invitation to touch”. Through the use of sustainable materials, clever functionality, and sleek aesthetics, the Cell LED carpet is a strong representation of LAMA’s design ethics and philosophy.
Cell uses an innovative side pressed strip concept made of 100% industrial wool felt. The strips are joined to create a random, cell-like structure which can be infinitely repeated. LEDs are embedded into the carpet to create a striking appearance. In natural daylight, the LEDs seamlessly blend into the carpet, while at night they create a subtle glowing effect. The structure of the carpet provides the flexibility for the lights to be positioned linear, following the carpet direction, or at random for a more glittering appearance.
Cell comes in more than 30 base colours, and can be ordered in every size. The carpets can also be custom cut in any shapes with several options in edge finishing: the strips can be cut off straight, or frayed for a more playful look. The advantage of the felt strip construction also means that every piece can be replaced, making it an excellent choice for commercial application.
