Ippolito Fleitz Group designed the Burkhardt Leitner constructiv exhibition stand at the EuroShop 2014. The exhibition stand showcases creative solutions that bring into play Burkhardt Leitner’s modular architecture systems. It also honours the company’s founder on the occasion of his seventieth birthday.
This year, the company’s core strengths – precision, innovation and modularity – team up with a strong emotional pull. The slogan ‘In Love with Detail’ frames surprising new ways of employing the company’s functional, minimalist system architecture, attracting attention from new target groups as well as the industry itself.
The external skin of the stand features a stretched fabric on both sides to create a special effect. On the outside, a transparent black gauze creates a consistent and homogenous surface, while the inner fabric is a handmade effect viscose. The dark outer skin creates a standout entrance and deliver a striking contrast against two protruding white cubes.
The main entrance is marked by a mirror wall positioned at right angles. The back of the mirror is an abstract representation of the company’s international sites. The reception desk is constructed with the ‘constructiv pon’ system, showcasing a front surface of printed glass that features the many design awards won by Burkhardt Leitner products.
Above the entrance lays a cloud of speech bubbles with quotes from friends, colleagues and partners taken from the recent published book about Burkhardt Leitner. The quotes can be identified on an adjacent wall diagram indicated by the shape of the respective speech bubble.
The first space within the stand features the ‘constructiv pila petite’ framework. The frame is covered by white gauze fabric that stretches across innovative clip-in profiles. The transparency of the gauze was deliberately used to illustrate the product’s innovation by showcasing the underlying system.
The cube breaks through the exterior wall, reminescent of a glasshouse. The association with a glasshouse is clearly visible by the use of tropical plants inside. From the exterior, the space is perceived like an oasis within the busy trade fair. Chairs have been placed beneath the greenery to invite visitors to take a moment and enjoy the new publication.
As an homage to the company’s founder, who is celebrating more than one anniversary this year, a partially glazed tower constructed from the ‘constructiv pon’ system displays a collection of mementos, including birthday presents that he has designed for his employees over the years.
The second space that breaks through the exterior skin is used to emphasize Ottobox, the mobile space system from Bukhardt Leitner. The system is often used as a conference space in open-plan offices, however it can also be transformed into a bar or a lounge. One of the two side walls was covered in dark wood, featuring a custom designed shelving system.
A white, thick-pile carpet and black anodized system profiles give the space a high class and sophisticated feel, showing ways in which Ottobox can be used to create a prestigious impression.
The communication point of the stand is marked by a long counter and oversized lighting elements, both made out of fabric stretched over profiles. The LED backlit company values contrast against the dark transparent ceiling, making them appear to float. The sides of the counter incorporates a printed collage of cut-out system profiles from Burkhardt Leitner. The decorative element design strengthens the theme that reoccurs on the anniversary column, and on the glass wall of the glasshouse.
The use of transparent fabrics emphasizes Burkhardt Leitner’s new products, and celebrates their innovation. ‘The formalistic system architecture meets random structures on its exterior skin and the natural exuberance of the plant growth, playfully showing different ways of employing the system architecture in everyday settings.’
