Designer Henrique Serbena worked closely with A Lot Of Brazil, to create a piece that captures the essence of contemporary Brazilian design. The Bird Bench is quite a metaphorical piece. The concept of freedom is reflected in the shape and form of the bench. The sculptural bench features a rigid central part that branches out at the ends, reminescent of a bird spreading its wings.
The delicate structure of the bench is made out of steel plates that have been powder coated. Serbena incorporates six different colours that add dimension, and depth to the design. While at first glance, the Bird Bench does not seem to be the most functional design, the creativity and delicate form combines traditional craftsmanship with an artistic touch.
That which is exact, rigid, and flat in the center of the piece becomes chaotic, fluid and curved at the ends. This transitioning effect that the design offers to the eye brings us to the imaginary flight of the will in the direction of freedom.
