_naturehumaine has recently completed the renovation of the Au Pain Doré bakery. Located on the ground floor of a 3 storey building on Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, Canada, the bakery is inspired by the European concept of ‘bakery/café’ that combines the sale of baked goods and high quality coffee where the barista takes center stage.
_naturehumaine completely redesigned the existing space, and added an extension in the back creating a 1500 sq ft unit.
The spacial concept was inspired by the lattice of wooden bread baskets. The designers developed a structural wooden frame that holds a series of randomized wood slats, essentially creating a lattice that opens and closes . Beyond its aesthetic qualities, the lattice creates space for lighting and ventilation.
The lattice wraps down the wall turning into shelves for bread and pastries, as well as benches and counter tops. The entire randomized rhythm of the lattice adds an element of dynamism to the experience.
The monochromatic look really enhances the contemporary re-branding. The black ceiling draws the eyes to the lattice, guiding visitors through the space. The rich contrast between the lattice, walls and furniture create an atmosphere that is reminescent of chic European bakeries.
