French designer Marc Venot has created the playful Acrobat table lamp for Normann Copenhagen. The oblong shaped lamp can be placed both vertically and horizontally in a variety of positions. The matte transparent finish gives off a soft, diffused light, making it ideal for cosy environments.
Acrobat is built out of two parts: a cone-shaped base and an oblong LED light source that are held together by magnets only. The innovative system allows the lamp to be positioned in a vast number of positions.
Acrobat has a minimalistic expression and its intelligent design means that it can be used both as a direct and indirect form of lighting. Acrobat is suitable as a desk lamp or to create atmospheric lighting, depending on how the lamp is placed on its base.
An acrobat is someone who can do extraordinary things without losing their balance. It looks like he’s going to fall over at any given moment, but he doesn’t. He toys with gravity itself, leaving the observer fascinated and surprised. This is the kind of effect I wanted to create with this lamp. My greatest hope is that the user will experience the same fascination, and feel like touching and understanding the lamp.
– Marc Venot
Acrobat is available in four nature-inspired colours. With three simple shades of grey, black, and sand, and an inviting, deep aubergine, the lamp is an excellent way to add colour in the home.
