Montreal based firm _naturehumaine transformed a two storey residential duplex, into a single family dwelling unit. Located in Rosemount (Montreal, Canada), 8th Ave. residence received a 430 sq. ft. extension, and a full redesign of its interior. The extension includes a master bedroom on the second floor, and a family room with access to an intimate garden, on the ground flood.
Standing proud on a typical Montreal laneway, the extension acts as a beacon of novelty and dynamism.
While the front façade was not modified, the back of the house received a full makeover. The new extension was designed in contrast to the existing building, featuring bright colours, angled forms and generous glazing.
The interior of the house was designed to highlight the beauty of the existing wooden structural walls and beams. The colour palette, unlike the exterior, was kept subtle and neutral. White walls complement the rustic look of the natural wood, and create an airy and calm atmosphere. The core of the house is flooded with natural light brought in by a large skylight, and glass floor.
Staying true to _naturehumaine’s design aesthetic and attention to details, 8th Ave is transformed into a contemporary, and welcoming residence.
