Luca Valota has designed a unique, limited edition storage unit for Italian furniture store E1+E4. DISK36 was inspired by the game Connect 4, offering an ever changing object that brings a fun element to any interior. As in the game created by Bradley, the goal is to connect four discs of the same colour next to each other vertically, horizontally or diagonally before the other player.
The unique storage unit is made of lacquered polished MDF, with varnished stainless steel legs. The structure of the unit is composed of 3 blue columns, 9 doors and 36 red and yellow disks.
Reference to the game is immediately noticeable through the choice of vivid colours, red and blue being reminescent of the iconic typical colours of the seventies. The finish of the MDF adds a realistic touch, being comparable to the material of the original game.
The game is made possible by the presence of 36 discs hooked to the doors by an internal rolling mechanism: each disc is leaned from the back of the door and released by turning clockwise. As a result, it is possible to challenge friends and relatives, or simply to place the discs according to the mood of the day, creating always different compositions.
The legs of DISK36, in polished stainless steel, hold the weight without drawing attention from the colourful unit. The slim profile makes the piece appear as if floating in space.
DISK36 original cabinet realized in limited edition, is sold on E1+E4 furniture store. A Qr code is engraved on a small plate of Corian and applied to each product. It contains data about the manufacture and the place of destination.
